Marcel has come to specialise in the area of burnout. Burnout is a result of excessive and prolonged emotional, physical, and mental stress. In many cases, burnout is related to one's job or their ministry context. Burnout happens when the balance of what you give constantly exceeds what you are taking in or receiving for yourself. By paying attention to people’s need for self-care Marcel has come to realise that burnout is far more prevalent that people may appreciate. Marcel prefers the opportunity to intervene earlier (though it is never too late) and help people understand how to bounce back and increase their self-awareness with some particular focus on coping mechanisms.

Advanced Burnout Recovery Solutions for Individuals, Teams, and Health Professionals

Burnout Training Program

To aid clients/ supervisees, patients, and staff in burnout recovery and ongoing sustenance:

*N.B. Having a current self-diagnosis or personal concern of burnout does not preclude attendance - an individual assessment and tailored program will form part of the course. An individual component will also be required for this.

Involving: Individual and group sessions

*Minimum requirements - a qualification, experience in a relevant field, and commitment to see through the whole program. Marcel intends to engage people who complete the course for collaborative work in burnout recovery with others.

Core components:

  • Assessment of burnout and the place of individually tailored programs. Burnout intervention for others and when and how to intervene.

  • Self-awareness work in therapy involves uncovering contributing core drivers and how we relate to ourselves as parents, children, and adults. It also involves exploring and uncovering core coping mechanisms.

  • Debunking of personal myths – (e.g. such as "I can do everything that I believe is required, there is such a great human need that I need to attend to, I can't deal with conflict)

  • Understanding of stress and self-care properly

  • Self-compassion, self-talk and forgiveness.

  • Boundaries- in all aspects of life and clear communication.

  • Exploring and evaluating relationships.

  • Attending to dietary and body needs.

  • Evaluation and exploration of whether you are in the right workplace, role, or career for you.

  • Group work.

  • Understanding mindfulness properly and the practice of it.

  • Re-discovering values, meaning and what gives life, fun, energy and engagement.

*The program will also utilise Nick Petrucco and his Life Coaching team.

*Limited to 6-8 people

  • 6-month program.

  • Assessment required.

  • Involves experiential group program.

  • It may also include individual sessions.

  • Group workshops on specific themes are listed above.

Burnout Treatment Program

Option 1: Individual assessment and ongoing one-to-one sessions.

Option 2: Comprehensive individual assessment and 3-6 month program including:

  1. Individual sessions.

  2. Groupwork.

  3. Group psycho-educational and experiential workshops.

The program will include:

  • Assessment of burnout and an individually tailored program. This may require periods of rest.

  • Self-awareness work in therapy- uncovering of contributing core drivers and how we relate to ourselves- parent, child and adult.

  • Debunking of personal myths – (e.g., "I can do everything that I believe is required; there is such a great human need that I need to attend to, and I can't deal with conflict").

  • Understanding of stress and self-care properly.
